Store the vaccine at temperatures
between +2 °Cand +8 °C.
It is safe, effective
and given in two doses at a minimum of 8 weeks.
Before opening a vial, check
the expiry date to make sure the vaccine can be used.

a) Use a new Auto Disable (AD) syringe for each person
b) Clean the site of injection with cotton wool dipped in
clean water to remove visible dirt.
c) Give 0.5ml to each person 18 years and above (Excluding
Pregnant women)
d) Inject the vaccine intramuscularly (IM, see picture
and diagram below)
f) Withdraw the needle and press the injection site with cotton
wool.
h) Carefully put used syringes into the safety box

Record vaccination on vaccination
card and hand it over to the client
k) Wash hands or use hand sanitisers after vaccination.
l) Vaccinated
clients should be observed for 10-15 mins in a designated area
m) Observe physical distancing during vaccination
p) DO NOT expose the vaccines to heat or light
5.0 ADVERSE EVENTS
FOLLOWING IMMUNISATION (AEFI)
- Assemble safety boxes in advance so that they can
be changed fast
- Place Safety
boxes within reach of the vaccinator for easy access,
- Put all used syringes in the safety box for
incineration
- Do not fill the safety box more than
three-quarters(¾)full
- Close the safety box securely when full
- Do not put empty vials into safety boxes. Place
them in a plastic bag and return them to the Team supervisors at the end
of each day
- Make sure safety boxes are securely closed before
transporting.
- Return used safety boxes to the facility/sub-district
for onward transport to the district for incineration
